Sahaj e-Village Ltd. is an organization of Srei Initiative, aiming to bridge the digital divide between metropolitan India and pastoral India. As a part of the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) of the Government of India, 100,000 Sahaj Kendra to be set up across the pastoral sector of India by the end of the Financial Year 2017 – 18.
Sahaj started operations in 2007 offering G2C (government-to-citizen) services in remote villages of Assam, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. In last one year, the company has diversified and started offering B2C (business-to-consumer) services.
Sahaj's business model is based on digitisation. The organization follows a brick-and-click model, providing both G2C and B2C services in remote geographies. Sahaj has physical centres in villages offering products and services using technology platforms. The organization partners with local villagers to run the Sahaj Kendras, which in turn promotes the spirit of entrepreneurship at the village level. Organization’s endeavour is to create a sustainable business which will not only contribute to India's economic growth but create a smarter Bharat.
Sahaj works under the flagship of NeGP of Government of India now acts as business correspondents for many public and private sector banks; distributes life, general and health insurance products; accepts utility bill payments; offers e-commerce and e-learning services; facilitates enrolment of Aadhar and Pan Card; and provide many other allied services.
In last 12 months, Sahaj has established its presence across 23 states and union territories. The company currently operates 66,500 service centres compared to 37,000 a year earlier. The company, which expects to turn EBITDA positive in the current financial year, has further chalked out an ambitious growth plan.
Self-sufficient villages are the need of the hour. So Sahaj under the flagship of NeGP India continues to expand its footprint adding 1,000-1,500 centres every month in villages with population of 10,000 or less. The revised business model has received encouraging response and the organization will cater 2.20 Crores of Indians by March 2018.
Sahaj , a part of NEGP India, offers more than 50 critical services in the domain of micro-insurance, education, utility and G2C services. Sahaj is a navigator of services to the remotest nooks of the hitherto ignored rural India.
The Sahaj Kendras provide rural consumers modern state-of-art technicalities. Moreover, apart from the convenience of a one-stop internet connected store next door, it dovetails into the program, larger aspects like livelihood creation, and computer education, to name a few.
Sahaj has always been committed towards long term interventions in rural India and aspires to do this by nurturing and developing the sense of entrepreneurship among common citizens.
