Srei has undertaken a complete integration in the power sector aiming at an optimum mix of organic growth by setting up and commissioning of power plants in both renewable & non-renewable sector, undertaking operation & maintenance contracts and transmission & distribution of energy. As also aiming at inorganic development through strategic partnerships and acquisition of assets both in India and overseas, thereby transforming its power assets into a
self-sustaining, fully integrated, end to end power unit that can contribute substantially to the power demand and supply
in the region.
Srei forayed into power sector in 2003 with the incorporation of India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) which operates
and maintains windmills in Gujarat (10.4 MW) and Karnataka (24.8 MW). IPCL has further contributed to the development of renewable energy by way of expansion in Rajasthan (60 MW) and is contemplating setting up additional capacities in the adjoining states. Srei is also actively involved in increasing its financial exposure in the sector with a 450 MW thermal power plant in Haldia, West Bengal through India Power Corporation (Haldia) Limited, scheduled for commissioning in 2012 end. With the pacing up of the Srei’s mega power projects in Bihar and Gujarat of 1320 MW each, Srei is fast evolving as a key player in power generation in India.
Srei has also marked its entry in the power utility sector through brownfield acquisition. DPSC, a distribution licensee in Asansol-Ranigunj belt, acquired in 2010, catered to a load of 230 MVA has been upscaled with a series of developmental activities lined up for strengthening the existing network and augmenting the demand-supply imparity. DPSC is setting up
a 12 MW power project in Dishergarh and a 540 MW project in Raghunathpur, for which land acquisition is in progress.
With the commissioning of their 220 kV substation at JK Nagar, Srei will have Central connectivity, enabling it to receive
and supply power across the country.
