A Graduate Engineer from Birla Institute of Technology, he is currently Chairman of lngersoll-Rand in lndia. Prior to his current employment, he has held several key positions in the Kirloskar Group. He is also a Director of Punjab Tractors Ltd, Chandigarh and Praj Industries Ltd, Pune. Beginning his career in 1971 as Graduate Trainee Engineer, in 1992 he rose to the position of Executive Director in Kirloskar Oil Engines, the flagship company of the Kirloskar Group (KOEL). He was the Chairman of the Karnataka State Council of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) in 2005, the premier Industry body that interfaces with the State and Central Government bodies. In 2007, he has been nominated by the CII to be a member of the National Horticulture Board and the Task Force formed by the Ministry of Agriculture, to examine policy interventions for the formation of the Cold Chain Infrastructure in lndia for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables.
